Dave Friedman - Guitarist

Toronto born guitarist Dave Friedman, began playing at the age of ten. In 1977, he began formal lessons at a local music school in
North York, Ontario where he learned music reading and rudimentary theory. Some of his earliest influences were rock guitar players
including Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and Canadian guitarists Kim Mitchell and Alex Lifeson. In 1982/83 Dave studied jazz and
classical guitar with Rob Campbell at the Eli Kassner Guitar Academy in Toronto. During this period Dave began listening to
numerous jazz and classical musicians all of whom were influential in shaping his style. From 1984 to 1989 Dave studied theory,
jazz harmony, and repertoire with renowned jazz guitarist/composer Gary Benson. From 1988 to 1992 Dave studied classical
harmony, analysis, counterpoint and history with Gordon MacKinnon and David Snable at the Royal Conservatory of Music, and in
1991/92 he studied classical guitar with Robert Hamilton also at the R.C.M. During the mid 1980's Dave played in bands performing
in venues throughout Ontario, Quebec and Canada's east coast. Dave's guitar work has received radio play on FM stations
throughout Ontario including Q107 in Toronto and The Wolf FM in Peterborough. Dave has also performed solo guitar and guitar with
vocal accompaniment. Dave taught guitar, bass, banjo, and theory at Scarboro Music in Toronto from 1988 to 1995. He also taught
group guitar and banjo programs for the City of Scarborough, 1992 - 1995, and The Municipality of Clarington, 2001- 2003. Dave has
taught guitar, bass, banjo and theory from his home studio since 1989. Recently Dave has focused on performing solo fingerstyle
jazz/pop standards, classical guitar and original compositions. Dave lives in Bowmanville, Ont. with his family. He continues to
perform, write, record and teach music.
